Weight-loss surgery
Typically a 3-night hospital stay. Your surgeon will regularly check in on you.
STEP 2:
Before surgery
Complete tests to establish your full health picture, start a pre-operation diet.
STEP 4:
After surgery
At least 2 years of ongoing care from your surgeon, clinical nurse and our team of allied health professionals.

NSW Health has provided limited funding to perform public metabolic and weight-loss surgery at Blacktown Hospital. If eligible, you'll be treated by a dedicated team of health professionals, including surgeons, endocrinologists, gastroenterologist, dieticians, psychologists and physiologists, through the public system.

A team of health professionals,
from surgeons to psychologists,
dietitians and physiologists, will get to
know you and review your case.
NOTE: Patients cannot bypass
this pathway.
STEP 2:
Referral appraised
The hospital team will assess your
referral and decide whether you are eligible for the public pathway.
NOTE: It is inappropriate to
fast-track individual patients without adequate indicators
or
STEP 4:
Proceed to surgery
or continue in clinic
The multidisciplinary team will
decide on the one of these two treatment options if you have a good track
record and show positive lifestyle/behavioural change.
